This year we are excited to announce that our popular comprehensive ORL course is taking on a new twist with two separate subspecialty courses. Each will provide 4.5 hours of focused material to allow for a deeper dive into the content of two important ORL subspecialties. Whether you are looking to enhance and reinforce your current knowledge base or expand and learn about an area of ORL nursing that is new to you, both courses promise to provide rich, evidence based, practical material from seasoned and dedicated faculty. Each course is ideal for the advance practice nurse practicing in otolaryngology or for the seasoned ORL nurse seeking a thorough review.
Comprehensive Head and Neck Cancer (In person only)
Friday, October 18th from 7:30am to 12:30pm
This course will provide 4.5-hour of content rich material to provide a comprehensive exploration of Adult Head and Neck Cancer through the lens of otolaryngology nursing. Course curriculum will include:
- Overview of cancer including the cancer cell, cancer spread, staging, grading and differentiation, histology, risk factors and goals of therapy
- Treatment modalities including radiation, adjuvant therapy, chemotherapy agents, toxicities and types, surgical intervention, immunotherapy, along with outcomes and restorative procedures
- A thorough review of Head and Neck Cancer types encompassing anatomy, diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the oral cavity, oropharynx, nasopharynx, hypopharynx, larynx, esophagus, salivary glands, thyroid, skin and skull base

Comprehensive Pediatric Otolaryngology (In person only)

This content-rich 4.5-hour course will provide a comprehensive exploration into pediatric ear, nose, and throat disorders and their management with a review of anatomy, etiology, symptoms, diagnostic evaluation and management. Topics covered will include pediatric focused curriculum on:
- Pediatric Otology - congenital anomalies, otitis media/effusion, otitis externa, eustachian tube disfunction, cerumen impactions, foreign bodies
- Hearing - pediatric considerations, screening and testing, congenital hearing loss, hearing aids (FM, air, cochlear implantation)
- Pediatric Nasal, sinus, nasopharyngeal disease - Allergy, sinus, adenoids, turbinate, fracture, foreign body, deviations, epistaxis
- Oropharyngeal - tonsil disease, foreign body, epilith, tongue/lip tie, salivary, cleft lip/palate, dysphagia, VPI and speech
- Lumps and bumps of the head and neck - lymph nodes, branchial cleft, thyroglossal, lymphangioma, hemangioma, pilomatrixoma, dermoids, malignancy
- Airway concerns in Children - choanal atresia, croup, malacia, vocal cord paralysis, airway lesions, craniofacial considerations, tracheotomy

Otology Skills Lab (In person only) SOLD OUT

This new 4-hour otology skills lab offers a blend of didactic instruction and hands-on training, emphasizing anatomy, physiology, diagnosis, and treatment interventions using otomicroscopy and endoscopy techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to refine their otology skills and acquire knowledge while practicing procedures, including:
- Cerumen removal, mastoid debridement
- Foreign body removal
- Otitis externa with wick placement
- Intratympanic steroid injections
- Ear bolstering
- Myringotomy with pressure equalizing tube placement
Target Audience: This course is intended for advanced practice nurses and nurses who wish to deepen their expertise in advanced otology interventions and procedures. It is ideal for those looking to practice, refine, or acquire new techniques in otology treatment. This new 2-hour tracheostomy skills lab integrates both didactic instruction and hands-on training, emphasizing tracheal anatomy, physiology, routine tracheostomy care, and emergency intervention. Designed specifically for nurses and advanced practice nurses new to tracheostomy management, this lab offers comprehensive education and practical experience.
Target Audience: Designed specifically for nurses and advanced practice nurses new to tracheostomy management. This lab offers comprehensive education and skills to manage acute tracheostomy complications, how to change tracheostomy tubes, provide suction, stoma care, and other practical skills to manage an artificial airway.

This new 2-hour skills lab combines didactic instruction with hands-on training to enhance your management of epistaxis. Covering anatomy, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment interventions, this lab adheres to clinical guidelines and evidence-based practices. Led by experienced instructors, it offers an opportunity to refine your skills. During the session, you will practice the following epistaxis interventions:
- Epistaxis prevention
- Medical treatment
- Nasal endoscopy to guide management
- Nasal cautery
- Nasal packing for adults and pediatric patients using non-dissolvable and dissolvable packing
Target Audience: This course is designed for the advanced practice nurse and nurse of all levels to manage acute epistaxis using cautery and nasal packing.
