About ENT-NF
The Ear, Nose and Throat Nursing Foundation (ENT-NF) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to advancing education, research, and professional development in otorhinolaryngology and head and neck nursing. Funded entirely through tax-deductible donations, the foundation supports a variety of initiatives including lectureships for Congress, nursing scholarships, Poster Awards, and grants for research and evidence-based practice. The ENT-NF also promotes excellence in professional writing for the ORL-Head and Neck Nursing journal through its Literary Award and New Author Award. Through these efforts, the foundation plays a vital role in enhancing patient care and fostering growth and leadership within the ENT nursing community.

I began my ENT nursing career after moving to Dallas, TX in 1983. I started in a single general ENT provider practice then I moved into an Otologist office where I met my mentor and friend, Kim Pollock. She encouraged me to join the local chapter of SOHN and so began an over 30-year relationship with SOHN. Though my jobs and positions changed over the years, SOHN was a constant. I learned about the Foundation as it was being formed and began my support at that time. At the very beginning, I felt this was a “no-brainer” place to donate tax deductible monies to a Society I was so involved in and loved. The purpose of the Ear, Nose and Throat Nursing Foundation is to financially support the endeavors of SOHN education programs and scholarships, grants, etc. I began donating small amounts at Congress raffles and events, membership and Congress application forms, local chapter events and began to grow my donations as my career grew. I can’t tell you the unbelievable value of the education I gained from these two organizations, the mentors, peers, friends I have treasured that I would not likely have had without ENTNF and SOHN. I would like to encourage you to consider donating to the ENT Nursing Foundation so that the excellent continuing education programs can keep going and scholarships and awards can continue to be given to those who apply or are nominated. Hope Andresen, Retired RN, CORLNE
A year out of diploma school I moved from New Hampshire to Houston in 1977 and began working at The Houston Methodist Hospital in the ENT intensive care unit. I was challenged with caring for patients who were often very frightened and anxious following radical head and neck surgery for cancer. After two years, I was asked to take a six-month intensive course to become an “ENT Specialist”. This was before the CORLN was available. I also joined the Houston Chapter of SOHN, one of the very first SOHN chapters. I served in every office on the local chapter over the years, became the national chapter coordinator, a local and national speaker, HPAC national committee chair, Congress VIP, Geriatrics SIG leader, and SOHN board member during a 15-year ORL career. My CORLN expired but I am still hooked on ENT nursing. Why? My ORL knowledge had been extremely beneficial as a hospital educator (I was known as the “trach nurse”), during my time as a CNS in gerontology, and as a school nurse for autistic children. I have remained a SOHN member and have supported the ENT-NF for many years and will continue to do so. As a current ENT-NF board member, I am proud to give back to an organization that has advanced me in so many ways and I will continue to support ORL nursing education and research and a specialty that continues to make remarkable advances in treatment protocols. To top it off, I have made life-long friendships with many of my ENT nurse colleagues. Mary Nouvertne Klein, RN, MSN |
